Our First Creative Succulent Workshop!

We are so pleased to say that our first ever Creative Succulent workshop was an absolute hit! I’m not sure who had more fun, us, or the attendees! The day got off to a hairy start with thrashing rain creating a lot of noise on the shed roof. Luckily, it stopped not long after mum started her introduction and planting demonstration. Our attendees were taught about succulent soil mixes, planting techniques and how the different types of succulents interact in a planting arrangement.

We asked our attendees to bring with them an object or planter that they wanted to work with. There were 2 people who decided to utilise some of the trinkets that had accumulated in our shed and it was great to see the upcycling and ‘womble-ing’ in action!

With everyone raring to go, it wasn’t long before our visitors were armed with scissors, drills! and their planters, making full use of the selection of plants we had prepared for the session. We brought lots of plants into the workshop space for the attendees to choose from but were more than happy to show them around the Nursery and find other varieties for those who had very specific ideas.

We had a good selection of hardy outdoor and more tender indoor succulents ready for our crafters to work with but it turned out that most were creating for an outdoor display. We collated trays of plugs, mother plants for cuttings are larger well-rooted 3″ potted plants. (Much like our online shop sizes). My mum and I rotated around each person and helped give them confidence in their design process. This workshop was not aimed to dictate to the delegates how to design, but to facilitate them in their own creations.

There was a wonderful variation in the different designs. We had lots of tiered arrangements, some tall, some short, some wide and some completely off the wall! Some chose to go for a minimal design with larger plants and others wanted lots of variety in smaller sizes.  I was left completely inspired to create my own planter afterwards, and I think next time, I’m going to have to do my own arrangement alongside the attendees!

We aim to host a second workshop later in the summer (probably early September) so keep your eyes peeled if you think something like this would be right up your street! We are also working on a winter space for future workshops too!

What a great idea, I shall look out for September dates, I live in Oxfordshire but my partner s dad was welsh and he has family there so I’m sure he wouldn’t mind booking a BB and visit them to.
